2016 Ambassador

2016 – 2017 Listowel Fair Ambassador

Sydney Carson

Being the little girl that hid behind her parents to being able to speak to a group of
over 100 people, becoming the 2016-17 Listowel Fair Ambassador has given me the chance to
grow immensely. Being able to represent the Listowel Agricultural Society this past year has
given me the opportunity to learn, understand and see the hard work and dedication that the
wonderful directors within the Agricultural Society do to make the fair the success it is.
The 2016 Listowel Fair hit a lot of milestones with having one of the biggest Senior’s
Day lunches and with having the highest number of pulls within the garden tractor pull as
well. A few of my favourite events of course were riding up on my family’s winning wagon
during the Classic Series North American Six Horse Hitch as well as pulling alongside my Dad
and brother at the tractor pull. The fair has always been a family affair and this past year being
able to watch my family and friends participate has definitely shown me what the Listowel Fair means to my “family.”
Apart from the fair, I was also able to be a part of the Harvest Auction, I met almost 90 Fair Ambassadors from across Ontario and created new friendships at the Ontario Agricultural Society convention at the Royal York in Toronto, I went to the District 8 Agricultural Societies meeting, participated in the District 8 Ambassador competition with the 8 other
Ambassadors from District 8 that I have become very close with and later on this year, I will be able to sit among many extraordinary Ambassadors as we compete for the title of ‘Canadian National Exhibition Ambassador of the Fairs.’ My year
has been packed full of amazing experiences and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
This past year has allowed me to grow and view the community in a completely different way. Listowel is a proud agricultural community that will bend over backwards for any of their neighbours and I am honoured to have grown up and been raised here. Though my life’s journey’s may travel elsewhere, the Listowel Fair will always be home. To the
upcoming Fair Ambassador, I wish you all the best as you will definitely learn a lot this upcoming year and will grow in the process. Enjoy your time. It will go by too fast. Thank you to everyone that was a part of the 2016 Listowel Fair’s 160th Barnyard Birthday Bonanza and who continue to be a part of the Listowel Fair as we celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday with the theme ‘Kick Up Your Boots and Celebrate Your Roots!’
